WEST AFRICA SUB-REGIONAL USER CONFERENCE ON COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH IN ACCRA

Judi Chamberlain

Judi Chamberlin, who died in January at age 65, was a civil rights hero from a civil rights movement you may have never heard of. She took her inspiration from the heroes of other civil rights movements to start something she liked to call Mad Pride — a movement for the rights and dignity of people with mental illness.

GFCMH workshop held in Bangalore last 14th November 2009 run succesfully!

The workshop in Bangalore “The role of consumers in mental health care” within the context of the World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation 10th World Congress has been presented.
Experiences of consumers groups in a sample of lower-middle-income countries (Nepal, Kenya, Tanzania, India ) have been presented and discussed. The role of consumers in relation to countries’ mental health care system has been highlighted. Suggestions has been given on how consumers can contribute to delivery on mental health care.

It’s a volutary non-profit organization of social promotion that wants to promote in Italy and abroad human rights, collaboration among peoples and cultures, with special attention to the care of children and socially vulnerable groups.
Psychologists for Human Rights group work in periphery of Gaza (Jabalia Refugee Camp) proposing an intervention, training and action-research program with the following objectives:
•Working on children trauma using theatre, circus and narrative tools.
• Start to train local health workers in using clinical and artistic-experiential techniques.
• Involve the community (religious authorities, intellectuals, teachers, families and opinion leaders)
• Support economically ,through funds and conjoint projects, one of Emergency and Trauma Centres of Gaza.

The number of clinical trials has steadily increased in recent years and the results of these trials will impact the health of people in a significant way. Clear understanding of the ethical principles involved in clinical trials, particularly on the aspect of recruitment of subjects is an essential and important issue.
